My uncle drove me in his 4x4 to my wedding. I was running late so I called my husband to let him know I might not make it in time... turns out he was 10 minutes ahead of me on the highway stuck in traffic. Yet neither of us were stressed out. We look at bad or unfortunate events as great stories to tell years from now to our grand children.
We not the traditional type so we wanted an unusual wedding, so my mom got me a massive ring pillow, we asked everyone to wear black jeans and a black t-shirt so that we would stand out in our blue jeans and white shirts. We got married at a theme park. We were so casual and comfortable and it made the day so amazing.
When it got to us saying our vows instead of saying I take Jurie Du Preez... I managed to get tongue twisted and muttered Jurie Du Pierre. So I am married to another man according to my husband every time he is thinking of trading me in for a newer, younger model.
When it came to the kiss I was wearing a very sticky lip gloss and my husband had a priceless reaction to it.
Most of our family met for the first time that day and surprisingly they all got along. The shocking part is that my mom and dad don't sit around the same table but put their differences aside for me. It was a bit of tricky situation to get the photo taken though... we struggled to get them to stand next to each other without being able to fit an elephant between them, but at last SUCCESS!!!
My brother decided he was born to stand out... Can you spot him???
As everyone left the theme park to meet us at the reception which was held at my aunt's house. My husband and I were standing outside the car that our family painted with lipstick and balloons... only to realize that my husband's mother had our car keys and our cellphones and they had already left. Once they were on the highway his mom remembered that we excited and turned around.
Once we got to the reception everyone was waiting with rose petals... so beautiful. A lot of pictures were taken by my dad, and only after the pictures were developed, did we see this one.
But wait there's more... (I sound like a sales commercial). At that point in time we lived in a 1 bedroom flatlet and his mom and them drove all the way from Bloemfontein for the wedding, so we decided not to leave straight away for our honeymoon and rather stayed home and spent some time with his family. There wasn't a lot of space for people to sleep. we blew up the 2 air mattresses for his 2 brother's and their wives and we couldn't let his mom sleep on the couch because she has back problems... we had one more solution left. On my wedding night I can proudly and not at all in a weird way, can say I shared a bed with my husband and his mother. (Yes, we make fantastic memories that could scare little children)
